Program overview
The South East Sports Academy is accepting scholarship nominations from female and male athletes from the SESA region interested in participating in selection trials for the Academy’s Hockey program. This program is specifically designed to underpin the Hockey NSW Pathway Program.
Scholarship benefits
Provide an environment for the athletes to develop and progress to Hockey NSW state teams.
Give access to quality performance support services and programs as athletes progress through the Hockey NSW pathways
Prepare athletes for the pathway Hockey season, including national tournaments.
Provide a coach education program for coaches, with the support of Hockey NSW.
Athletes will receive a minimum of 30 on field sessions.
Home Strength & Conditioning program.
Minimum of 3 hours athlete education.
Athlete eligibility
To gain selection into the Hockey Program athletes must satisfy the eligibility criteria and demonstrate the following:
U16’s and U18’s
Athletes selected by Hockey NSW.
Athletes must demonstrate potential for HNSW Pathway Program selection in upcoming years.
Reside, attend school, or compete for an affiliate sporting club within the defined boundaries of The South East Sports Academy (SESA)
Athletes must be committed to progressing to higher representation within the sport of hockey
Athletes must be committed to attending all coaching/training, education sessions and camps. We understand that from time to time athletes may be unable to attend sessions due to illness, holiday commitments or competing at a higher level within school sport etc. Prior arrangement must be sort and approved from SESA to be absent from any sessions.
Athletes must be a member of a Hockey NSW registered hockey club
Final athlete selections will be sanctioned by Hockey NSW (HNSW).
Selection criteria
Athletes will be selected into a program via two ways:
Invitation sent to HNSW identified athletes to join program.
A nomination & trial conducted by SESA
The selection criterion comprises sport specific requirements developed in collaboration with Hockey NSW. The SESA reserves the right to accept or reject any athlete nomination based on its own selection criteria.
Conditions of scholarship
SESA Hockey Scholarship holders are expected to:
Attend all program activities
Be committed and prepared to work toward improving performance
Be committed to a holistic approach to athlete development
Not take or use performance enhancing drugs or illegal drugs or participate in other activities that are prohibited by the South East Sports Academy Code of Conduct
Behave and dress in a professional and dignified manner when representing SESA
Attend Athlete Education Sessions
Complete strength & conditioning program
An athlete levy of $300 will apply which covers the cost of program activities.
Uniform levy $150 (mandatory in 2024 for new SESA uniform). Uniform items can be purchased in subsequent years but not compulsory if uniform is still in good condition.
There is a selection process and additional fee for the Your Local Club Academy Games.
The SESA squad may compete in various competitions / camps throughout the program and an additional cost maybe incurred to support some of these events/tours.
Application Process
Complete an online nomination form by 30 October 2024.
Attend selection trials on 3 November at Goulburn Hockey Centre
2024/25 Hockey Program
The 2024/25 program will run from November 2024 - April 2025. Skills training sessions are generally held Goulburn Hockey Centre, although we may go outside the local region for training camps and ClubsNSW Academy Games.
SESA will organise education/personal development sessions throughout the season.
A home strength & conditioning program will be provided.
